Healthy Weight Loss Methods

There is a huge proliferation of diets, fads, and weight-loss gurus in the world today. With so much information out there, how can we decide what to do in order to lose weight and stay in shape? Ultimately, we simply need to educate ourselves and stop relying on some magic formula that doesn’t exist. Since the whole point of losing weight is to become healthier, the best way to lose weight is simply to adhere to healthy weight loss methods that have been proven over time.

Well over 2,000 years ago, Hippocrates, considered the founder of modern medicine, noted that a single weight loss method didn’t work for all people – that since each person is different, then the type of diet a person went on should be different as well. But in general, thousands of years before Atkins, he noted that healthy, rich foods helped people feel more satisfied, and eat less overall.

The same holds true today, but must be modified for each person. But in general, a combination of diet, exercise, and learning to get sufficient sleep and play time will, in the long term, be far more beneficial than the latest fad diet craze.

What are Healthy weight loss methods?

Beginning with diet, one should not focus on calories and the deprivation that leads to binging. Rather, focus on changing your eating habits, as well as the foods you consume. Begin with portion control. Many of us have learned to clear our plates, and to eat to much. We can easily change this habit by using smaller plates – this will make the portion appear bigger to they eye; since portion control is one of the leading factors in gaining or losing weight, using smaller plates can help a great deal.

You should also eat more frequently, enjoying 5 or 6 small meals a day instead of 2 or 3 large ones. This will keep the body busy digesting nutrients, and also has been proven to increase your base metabolism – the rate at which your burn calories – by up to 10%, even without exercise.

The types of foods you eat will make a huge impact on your hunger levels. Consuming frozen, processed foods is a sure method to be hungrier, more often. Such foods are often nutrient poor, and the body responds by sending out signals to eat again. Instead, begin buying foods that are rich in nutrients, both macro and micro.
Finally, add in a simple exercise program, 20 to 30 minutes a day. This can even be broken down into 10 minute segments throughout the day, and be done at work for the sake of time and convenience. Walking is usually enough to make a huge impact on weight loss and health, and is one of the most natural things we can do as well – our bodies were made for it.

Adding in sufficient sleep will help reduce the hormones that cause us to store fat; making time to do the things you enjoy will also be of great benefit. Healthy weight loss methods not only work; they are enjoyable!
